This page contains no Arbor Compass averages, no local price estimates and no quotes - services differ in scope, and prices vary by tree, site and market.
About this index
"Published guide figure" means the source states no per-figure sample size or median. Where sources conflict, both figures are listed with attribution. A separate section below shows how local labor cost tends to differ using a BLS wage index - a signal, not a local price. How local cost might differ
None of the guides above publishes a per-city price dataset, and neither does Arbor Compass. To show how a local number might land differently, the table below applies one explicit formula to each metro:
Local labor adjustment = national published range x metro wage index, where the metro wage index is the metro mean hourly wage for BLS OEWS 37-3013 Tree Trimmers and Pruners divided by the national mean hourly wage of $26.91 (May 2025).
This is a labor-cost signal, not a published local price; tree work is priced job by job on site, and labor is only one part of a bill that also covers equipment, access, disposal and risk. Read the index as a direction, not a rate: a metro at 1.32 carries roughly 32% higher tree-work wages than the national mean, while a metro at 0.66 sits about a third below. Cities with no published metro wage fall back to the national baseline.

Angi publishes an aggregate, not a median
Angi's tree pages report an aggregate drawn from "over 400 project types and more than 2 million reported costs," updated daily with outliers removed. There is no per-page sample size and no median, so this index does not attribute one to Angi.

Is this an index of local tree removal prices?
No. Every figure on this page is a published national guide figure, quoted from the named source. Arbor Compass does not maintain an observed city-level price dataset and does not compute averages of its own. The city table lower down is a labor-wage signal, not a set of local prices.
Why do the sources disagree with each other?
They use different samples and methods, and cost-guide sites aggregate loosely documented figures rather than publishing a sample size or median. Where sources conflict, both figures are shown with attribution so you can see the spread.
What does the metro wage index actually show?
It rescales a national published range by one number: the metro mean hourly wage for tree trimmers and pruners (BLS OEWS 37-3013, May 2025) divided by the national mean of $26.91. It illustrates how local labor cost tends to differ; it is not a published local price. Tree work is priced job by job on site.
Which figure should I use for budgeting?
